Jon Cannon was born on March 13th, 1956 in Winfield, Kansas. Jon started the Fire/EMS portion of his career in the near vicinity of 1980 with Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department. He would go on to attend Paramedic School and function as a Firefighter/Paramedic until eventually progressing to Shift Lieutenant, and then Captain. Jon held additional titles while at ACFD as Arson Investigator, EMS Director, and coordinated HAZMAT responses within the surrounding community.
Jon retired from ACFD in 2012 with ~32 years of service. After retirement, he went on to use his paramedic background to acquire a position as SWAT Team Medic/Sniper with the Southern Kansas SWAT Team. Jon, in partnership with his brother, Ron, would construct a law enforcement-based search and rescue tracking service in the early 2000s that would go on to be involved with several missing persons and criminal cases.
At home, Jon enjoyed outdoor life including hunting, fishing, riding four wheelers, and his personal favorite, building and repairing barbed wire fences on the family farm. He also dedicated a lot of his free time to maintaining his home and farm. In December of 2019, Jon was diagnosed with Peritoneum Carcinoma. Jon fought valiantly, even returning to work while undergoing chemotherapy. In late 2021, early 2022, Jon would begin to rapidly decline and he would eventually succumb to complications associated with cancer in March of 2022 at the age of 66. Jon survived by his wife, Janet and their two children, Hayes and Tate.
